Dreaming of a Summer Holiday?
Nothing quite beats a lakeside summer holiday, and Queenstown certainly is the place for that.
Warm temperatures and long evenings make the perfect backdrop to getting outdoors and enjoying the diversity of this incredible landscape. We’ve put together a few pointers on how to enjoy the best of what Queenstown has to offer this summer, ranging from the adrenaline-fuelled to something a little more leisurely.
Now that the snow has melted away, you have the chance to access some of the world-famous, Middle-Earth landscapes by foot. Queenstown is a great base to access some of the countries Great Walks, but there are also plenty of shorter options. Check out our guide to half-day hikes in Queenstown, here.
Lake Wakatipu is Queenstown’s pride and joy and, alongside its incredible views and photo opportunities, it is home to a multitude of summer activities. Whether it be hair-raising jet-boat rides, parasailing and kayaking, or a leisurely lake cruise aboard the famous TSS Earnslaw, there is something for everyone. Your days can be filled with action, or can simply be enjoyed relaxing along the shoreline, taking a dip and soaking up some rays.
The lively vibe that this lakeside town has to offer lasts well into the night, and the setting sun isn't a call to the end of fun. Nurse a cold-one along the shoreline and watch the colours change over the lake. Savour local food and wine in some of the countries top restaurants. And later on head out to enjoy live music and dancing in one of the many great pubs and bars. Make sure however to stay safe and be ready for another day out and about in the sun tomorrow…
