It’s a magical time of year here in Queenstown – the air is cold while the sun shines, fires roar in the downtown bars and the snow lights up the surrounding mountains.

The town is welcoming visitors from all over to come and experience everything on offer during winter. Staysouth.com thought we’d let you know about a couple of great Queenstown events that involve snow, the outdoors, après ski, fashion, food – and, of course, fun!

First up is the famous Peak to Peak and is a hit with thrill-seeking adventure racers out there. Held on 11th August, individuals and teams of two to five people race from The Remarkables ski area to Coronet Peak.

It’s a high-speed, gut-busting challenge that begins at The Remarkables with people skiing or snowboarding 2km down the slopes, to then transition to a 17km mountain bike down the ski area access road to Frankton Beach. Then competitors kayak 7km on Lake Wakatipu to Queenstown Bay. The next stage is a 9km run from Queenstown to Coronet Alpine Hotel, followed by a 9km uphill cycle to the Coronet Peak ski resort base.

The Peak to Peak is generally held in all conditions. It’s a fun event and worth doing if you’re up for it.

If you’re staying in Queenstown and looking for something a little more glamorous, check out Clicquot in the Snow from 2-5 August. The four-day annual event gives locals and visitors alike a chance to toast winter with après ski fun.

Head up to Coronet Peak and enjoy a flute of Clicquot champagne at the snow bar on the main deck during the day or during Coronet’s awesome night skiing sessions.

Fashion-lovers won’t want to miss the Evening with Kathryn Wilson and Veuve Clicquot on August 4. New Zealand’s biggest shoe designer will showcase her summer 2014 collection at the Heliworks Hangar. You’ll get to see an exclusive catwalk preview before the collection hits stores and meet Kathryn Wilson herself, while enjoying a flute of Veuve Clicquot. Tickets are $50 and can be bought here.
