Inaugural International Jazz and Blues Festival for Queenstown this Labour Weeken
Springtime in the mountains is magnificent any year and in 2013, the spring highlight in Queenstown is likely to be the Pacific International Jazz and Blues Festival taking place between October 24 and 27.
Over the long weekend, Queenstown will pulse to the strains of jazz, funk and blues music as the alpine resort welcomes musicians from around the world.
Much loved kiwi musician Billy Te Kahika (or Billy TK) is the festival director and says more than 70 musicians from the USA, Australia and New Zealand are contributing to an awesome programme. The International Festival tours the Pacific en-route to Queenstown with stops in Fiji, Cook Islands, Samoa and Tahiti all promising unforgettable music in unforgettable places.
Australasian guitar super hero Kevin Borich of Kevin Borich Express fame. Kevin has performed with Carlos Santana and a host of famous stars and first came to fame in iconic NZ band 'The Le De Das'. Other artists include local blues and Jazz stars, Paul Ubana Jones, Blues Queen Mahia Blackmore, King Leo Blues band and jazz divas Lorraine Haville and Margaret Umbers. Winging in from California is the Mofo Party Band from California, known for high energy performances and amazing harmonica playing and Billy TK features as NZ’s very own international Blues guitarist.
