Inaugural International Jazz and Blues Festival for Queenstown this Labour Weeken

Springtime in the mountains is magnificent any year and in 2013, the spring highlight in Queenstown is likely to be the Pacific International Jazz and Blues Festival taking place between October 24 and 27.

Over the long weekend, Queenstown will pulse to the strains of jazz, funk and blues music as the alpine resort welcomes musicians from around the world.

Much loved kiwi musician Billy Te Kahika (or Billy TK) is the festival director and says more than 70 musicians from the USA, Australia and New Zealand are contributing to an awesome programme.    The International Festival tours the Pacific en-route to Queenstown with stops in Fiji, Cook Islands, Samoa and Tahiti all promising unforgettable music in unforgettable places.

Australasian guitar super hero Kevin Borich of Kevin Borich Express fame.  Kevin has performed with Carlos Santana and a host of famous stars and first came to fame in iconic NZ band 'The Le De Das'. Other artists include local blues and Jazz stars, Paul Ubana Jones, Blues Queen Mahia Blackmore, King Leo Blues band and jazz divas Lorraine Haville and Margaret Umbers.  Winging in from California is the Mofo Party Band from California, known for high energy performances and amazing harmonica playing and Billy TK features as NZ’s very own international Blues guitarist.

At a Staysouth apartment you’ll find the perfect place to kick back and catch a few hours sleep after days and evenings of chilling to the music – most of which takes place at venues right on the lakefront – just minutes’ walk from our Lake Ridge Condos and Esplanade Queenstown Villas.  For those who love the music, but want to retreat to the serene beauty of the Frankton Arm, our lakeside Village Queenstown apartments are just 10 minutes by water taxi from the action.

All our apartments and villas are spacious, modern and well-appointed – perfect for groups of friends or families. All of us at Staysouth are local people who know and love Queenstown and who can most certainly point you in the direction of a great bar where the best sounds are.
