Whenever you go away on vacation it’s always good to know where the local grocery stores and supermarkets are at your holiday destination.

So we thought we’d offer some useful advice on where to buy food and alcohol in Queenstown.

The resort has three supermarkets – two in downtown Queenstown and one in Frankton and their open hours are from around 7am-7pm.

Alpine Supermarket is a small store in the heart of Queenstown and is great for picking up a few items on the go while you’re walking around town. If you’re staying at Staysouth.com’s properties Esplanade Queenstown Apartments and LakeRidge Condos, this is an ideal shop as it’s closest to your apartment. It’s easy getting there on foot, with a pleasant five-minute walk along the lake.

Also in central Queenstown are the Night ‘n Day Foodstores on Shotover Street and Camp Street – these are open 24 hours a day and stock basic grocery items, as well as confectionery.

Fresh Choice is a bigger supermarket if you’re staying in Queenstown for a longer period. It’s got everything you need and has plenty of car parking. You can also walk to Fresh Choice if you’re staying in Queenstown – it’s a 10-minute walk from Staysouth.com’s properties.

If you’re staying at Staysouth.com’s Village Queenstown apartments, the easiest option is New World Wakatipu in Frankton. It’s conveniently-located in Remarkables Park shopping complex, and is the biggest supermarket in Queenstown. There’s ample parking if you choose to take your car but it’s also an easy 10-minute walk from your apartment.

All supermarkets have regular specials on food, drink and other grocery items.

Fine food lovers should definitely pay a visit to the Mediterranean Market on Gorge Road near central Queenstown. This food store stocks a variety of local and international specialty products and locally-grown fresh produce. The Mediterranean Market also has a deli and butchery counter, plus a small café area where you can sit and drink coffee and salivate over the gorgeous cakes and sweets.

If you’re looking for something extra special, why not head to the Remarkables Market. It’s a weekly market featuring products made by local artisans, organically-grown produce and other arts and crafts. The Remarkables Market is held at the Red Barn at Remarkables Park Town Centre every Saturday between October 26, 2013 to April 19, 2014, from 8.30am-1pm.

There are also several liquor outlets in Queenstown. Betty’s Liquor has two stores in convenient locations  on Cow Lane and Beach Street, plus another in Arrowtown. Henry’s Beer, Wine and Spirits is situated next to Alpine Supermarket on Shotover Street.

There are so many options for you to choose from – which is ideal when you stay in a luxury self-catered apartment. Staysouth.com’s properties all come with spacious, modern kitchens for you to cook a banquet in the privacy of your own apartment.

We love good food at Staysouth.com – so if you need a recommendation about the best place to buy your groceries while on holiday in Queenstown, we’d be happy to help you out.
