As the temperatures heat up, the focus changes from winter related events, to celebrations where you can enjoy the famous Central Otago climate of long, hot, still days.
Whether you’re looking to kick back with a glass from one of the region’s many famous wineries, or want to get outdoors amongst Queenstown’s amazing natural landscape – there is something to suit everyone in the spring and early summer calendar. We've searched out some of the best things to do in Queenstown for spring and early summer 2014 for you.
First up is the Queenstown Jazzfest 2017, which runs from 20-23 October. It started in 1978 and has grown since then to become one of the region’s most popular musical events, attracting top-notch talent from New Zealand and around the world.
Featuring over 40 different free and ticketed events around the region, the Queenstown Jazzfest has wide range of genres and performances, and promises to entertain all music lovers.
Petrol heads and car lovers alike are in for a treat with the Highlands 101, two days of adrenaline-filled fun at the Highlands Motorsport Park circuit. Running over the weekend of 10-12 November, the event incorporates the final of the Australian GT Championship and features Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Aston Martins – to name but a few.
The event culminates in an endurance race that will see the fastest cars and drivers from the weekend battling it out over 101 laps of the Highlands Park Circuit – this is not to be missed by anyone who enjoys high-octane thrills.
If exercise is more to your liking, the inaugural Queenstown International Marathon is being held on the 18th of November. This new event incorporates not just the 42km marathon, but a range of other events suited for all levels of runners. The marathon itself starts in Arrowtown and ends up in Central Queenstown, taking participants through some of the best scenery in the region.
For those that want to sit back and soak up the world-class wine and food the region has to offer, the famous Arrowtown Long Lunch on 1st December will be just the ticket. Held once a year, the main street of Arrowtown is taken over by one long table stretching the entire length of Buckingham Street. Tickets are available online so get in quick for a day of excellent food and lively entertainment that is not to be missed.
