The beach at Queenstown Bay

Queenstown in summer is particularly glorious and renowned as an all year-round holiday destination.

The long days and evenings are perfect for getting outdoors and enjoying the diversity of this incredible landscape, whether it be adrenaline-fuelled or something a little more leisurely. We’ve put together a few pointers on how to enjoy the best of what Queenstown has to offer this summer.

Lake Wakatipu is one of the main attractions Queenstown has to offer in the summer. Not only does it provide incredible views and plenty of photo opportunities, but it hosts a multitude of activities ranging from hair-raising jet-boat rides, parasailing and kayaking, to a leisurely lake cruise aboard the famous TSS Earnslaw. Fill your day with action, or simply enjoy relaxing along the shoreline, taking a dip and soaking up some rays.

Now that the snow has melted away, you have the chance to explore some of the world-famous, Middle-Earth mountains and valleys by foot. Queenstown is a great base to access some of the countries Great Walks, but there are also plenty of shorter options. Check out our guide to half-day hikes in Queenstown, here.

Dusk in Queenstown however, doesn’t mean and end to the fun. The lively vibes that this lakeside town has to offer lasts well into the night, and the nightlife never disappoints. Nurse a cold-one along the shoreline and watch the colours change over the lake. Savour local food and wine in some of the countries top restaurants. And later on head out to enjoy live music and dancing in one of the many great pubs and bars. Make sure however to stay safe and be ready for another day out and about in the sun tomorrow…

All our luxury accommodation is spacious and modern, making for the perfect summer holiday base. Garaging offers places to store summer equipment and wet gear, making everything easy. Chef quality kitchens make self-catering fun and there’s an apartment layout to suit every couple, group or family.

*Don’t forget that the sun can be extreme in the South Island so it’s a good idea to carry sunblock and a water bottle at all times.
