Although Queenstown is best known for its adrenaline fuelled thrill seeking activities, don’t let this fool you. Queenstown is also full of kid friendly activities that the whole family can enjoy. We have put together a list of some of Queenstown’s most popular family attractions which operate year-round no matter the season:
Funyaking
Float deep into the heart of Mt Aspiring National Park as you weave and paddle through dramatic chasms, rock pools and hidden waterfalls. Funyaking is a great activity for the whole family as well as a great way to spend the day on the water taking in the beautiful scenery Queenstown is so famous for. For those who have never heard of a “Funyak” it is essentially an inflatable kayak/canoe.
Ziptreking
Ziptreking is suitable for young children, as well as the young at heart. Spend the afternoon up Bobs Peak zipping through the forest canopy and soaring high above Queenstown. Whether you are looking to dip your toe into Queenstown adventure or want to fall head first into it and take the steepest zipline in the world, you will find it all here.
Frisbee/Disc Golf
Located in the Queenstown Gardens this 18-basket course was the first of its kind established in New Zealand. Frisbees can be hired in several shops in Queenstown for just $5 or for the disc golf enthusiasts you can play with your own. Spend a few hours strolling through the gardens and play the full 18 holes or just a short 9-hole game if you prefer.
Jet boating
With 5 jet boating companies to choose from, this is an activity sure to please the whole family. Take an adrenaline pumping ride as you weave through the narrow rocky canyons of the Shotover river. Experience the thrill of high speed as you skim across inches of water, or take a scenic ride down to Glenorchy or along Lake Wakatipu down to the mighty Kawarau River. In Queenstown you can choose from a number of world famous jet boat operators to pick the best ride for your desires.
