Queenstown has spent the last week under a blanket of snow, the start of what looks like a great ski season ahead! Ski season is upon us with all of the local ski fields opening for business in a number of weeks! With late night flights as well as direct flights from Australia, Queenstown will be buzzing with snow enthusiasts in no time.

We have put together a checklist for rookies when it comes to planning your Queenstown ski Holiday.

Where do I hire gear?

How do I get up the mountain?

Option 1: Self-drive
If you don’t like the idea of public transport and prefer the flexibility of driving yourself then self-driving is an option. With stop points along the road for chain hire and fitting this is an option for those with and without a 4wd drive. 

Option 2: Snowline
NZSki operate Snowline buses all season long to Coronet Peak and the Remarkables departing 8:00 am to 11:30 am every 20 minutes and returning from 1:30pm onwards as the buses fill, providing a comfortable and safe alternative.

Where do I book lessons?

Ski/Snowboard lessons generally operate twice daily across all 3 Queenstown mountains and are a great way to build your confidence and skills to ensure you get the most out of your runs. Adult group lessons allow for both ski and boarder instruction and are designed for all levels from beginner through to expert. Kids lessons can be arranged as a single or full-day programme and range across a selection of age groups and skill levels for children from 5- 15 years. Advanced lessons are available for those wanting to take their ability to the next level, as well as private lessons to cater to your own needs and level.

Do I need Travel Insurance?

We recommend investing in some travel insurance if you are planning a trip to Queenstown. Although coming to Queenstown in winter is like stepping into a winter wonderland, flights are weather permitting and can occasionally be delayed or cancelled.
