Queenstown is New Zealand’s very own natural playground with unlimited activities making sure our visitors holidays are never dull. The alpine setting means there are plenty of hikes and walking trails to experience all with the promise of unforgettable views at the end.

Although there are many more walks in Queenstown and the surrounding region, we have narrowed it down to a few of the local half day walks suitable for those short on time.

Difficulty scale 1 (easy/family friendly) -  5 (difficult/incline)

Queenstown Hill – 3

3 Hours Return 4.2km

If you are starting your walk from downtown Queenstown then this will take approximately 3 hours return trip, however if you are lucky enough to be staying with us at the Commonage Villas then this time is cut in half as you are already part way there! The villas are at the base of the actual trail. This track offers great views of Queenstown bay from the first view point “basket of dreams”, if you endure and walk a little further you will also be able to see views right around to the Frankton Arm.

Bobs Peak – 2.5

1.5 Hours Return 5km

This walk leads you to the top of the “Skyline Hill” and there are two track options, one is a bit of a grunt right up the guts, it is not as far to walk but is the steeper option of the two, and is not as well maintained. The other weaves through the trees and is a little easier on the knees (and the lungs). From the top you will have views across Queenstown Bay and sweeping around towards Glenorchy.

Bobs Cove – 1.5

40 Minutes Return 2km

Bobs Cove is the easiest walk out of this list and is very family friendly. The first half of the track is all flat along the lake side followed by a short hill at the end to the viewpoint. The view from the “Picnic Point” is well worth it and is one of the lesser known walks that is a local favourite.

Jacks Point – 1.5

4 hours 5.6km

This walk is a family friendly option and the track is lakeside most of the way. It takes approximately 4 hours return and offers views of Lake Wakatipu looking towards Kingston.
